Another suggestion that I have seen successful is purchasing a home/condo in an area of high tourism traffic and renting it out. Around the Montana Big Sky Area, people will pay really good money for a few days close to the ski resorts. It can be applicable for lots of areas that are desirable for short and long term stays.
